LEEDS UNITED WIN IN DENMARK

Cochrane Scores Two Goals Against Jutland Side

AARHUS. Thursday

Leeds United, opening their Danish tour here to-day, defeated a Jutland team by 3 goals to 1, after leading, by one goal to nil at half-time. Cochrane, the outside right, scored twice, and Gordon Hodgson the other. Alfred Jorgensen, the Danish outside right, scored for Jutland. Six thousand spectators watched the match, which was played in fine weather. The crowd was somewhat disappointed at the display of the English team, but, the players had to contend with a hard ground and could not take any chances. Leeds, however, were far superior to their opponents with their positional play and time after time, the visiting forwards and half-backs beat their men with, shrewd headers. The Danes, on the other hand, put up a strong defence in the first half, and it was only five minutes before half-time that Cochrane opened the scoring for Leeds. At the interval Leeds led by this goal. Twelve minutes after the interval Hodgson got another for Leeds, the South African heading in from a corner kick.

Cochrane on the Mark

There was loud applause from the crowd when Jorgensen scored a goal for his side, after 21 minutes but five minutes later, Cochrane settled the issue by netting a third goal. Throughout the match, the Danes had played energetically and matched the speed of their opponents. Powell and Short were the outstanding players, for Leeds, while the best, for the Danes were Gluemer, Spiegelhauer, and the goalkeeper Nielsen. The teams were: JUTLAND: A. D, Nielsen; K. Gluemer, Splegelhauer; H. Jensen, K. Hougaard, T. Sorensen; A. Jorgensen, E. Knudsen, A. Frisley, K. B. Overgaard, W. Petersen. LEEDS UNITED: Twomey; Goldberg; Scaife; Makinson, Holley, Browne; Cochrane, Short, Hodgson, Powell, Hargreaves.
